The most beautiful hiking trails around Eisenach
There are numerous varied hiking routes to explore around Eisenach. Here is a small selection of popular routes:
Rennsteig
A hiking holiday in Thuringia along the Rennsteig traditionally begins in the Eisenach district of Hörschel. The first stage of the legendary ridge trail starts from here. It is a must for every hiker to carry the traditional pebble from the River Werra all the way to the end of the trail.
Dragon- and Landgrave Gorge
Just outside the city gates lies the spectacular Dragon Gorge with its narrow rock faces. Our insider tip for those seeking peace and quiet is the neighbouring Landgrave Gorge: it is unspoilt, less frequented and offers an almost enchanted atmosphere in the dense deciduous forest.
Pummpälzweg to Bad Salzungen
This varied trail connects Eisenach with the spa town of Bad Salzungen. It offers magnificent views over the Wartburg region and is dotted with wooden sculptures that tell regional legends.
